On 12 May 2021 and 13 May 2021, the Botshabelo Moral Regeneration Forum held a School Health Week awareness campaign at four high schools. The campaign was held for Grade 8 learners to address risk behaviours like early sexual relations, smoking substances, drinking alcohol and gang activities that lead to health challenges.
The campaign promoted a healthier and safer school environment conducive to teaching and learning. Over 1 208 learners participated in the dialogue sessions. The speakers included :
• Ms Ntswaki Lekekela from LoveLife, who spoke on youth programmes within the community;
• Mr. Letlafuoa Matseba from Setshabelo Family and Child Services who highlighted various child protection services and interventions in the community;
• Mr. Pearce Mokoena from the Department of Health who spoke of mental health awareness and prevention during COVID-19; and
• Ms. Tebogo Maponya, a prosecutor from the National Prosecuting Authority who discussed sexual offences and gangsterism amongst children and youth.
The sessions left learners empowered and enthusiastic about preventing and tackling these issues.
